Seward, AK

We arrived in Seward sometime in the night! We headed up for breakfast at 5:30 so we would be ready to get off the ship at 5:55! After disembarkment we walked across the street to the train station and boarded a train for Anchorage.

Denali (Mt. McKinley) is in the distance!

We sat with a couple from Massachusetts that are with our tour group. The train trip was about 4 hours. We saw more glaciers, beluga whales (the train stopped along the ocean so we could watch them for about 30 minutes), a moose and some Dall sheep.

This is the picture we got of the beluga whale as it came up for air.

Our bus met us at the airport where we got off the train. On the way to our hotel we stopped in a park to see Mt. McKinley (Denali). There were no clouds in the sky so we had a great view of it! They say that only 2% of all the people that come to Alaska see it with no clouds! On down the road we saw a moose (right in town!). We checked into our room at the Millennium Hotel. We received a voucher for lunch -- $21.25 each! Down to the dining room to eat again! We both had halibut! I can never have too much fish!

Back to the room to wait for our two suitcases to arrive. One came. We waited….no second suitcase. After several hours, Bob headed to the lobby to check on it. All suitcases had been delivered! Oh, no! The suitcase that we had was the one that had our warm weather clothes in it for the Panama Canal trip! We called the Minnesota tour office and they gave us a phone number for a tour leader in town. We called him and after about 45 minutes he located our suitcase! ! But we didn’t have it yet. In an hour, Bob headed back to the lobby and returned with the bag! What a relief! Whew

We explored around the hotel. Right behind us was Lake Hood where float planes are docked. Planes were landing and taking off. It was fun to watch them come and go.

Supper vouchers were for $31.25 each! Food has higher costs in Alaska than in Iowa! We headed to bed for an early start tomorrow.

Beautiful sunset over Lake Hood.
