We arrived in San Diego at 8:30 am. We passed by the Navy Base on the way in to the pier.
We didn’t have any tours so headed off the ship to see what we could find. The USS Midway is docked two ships over. Bob decided to take the tour of it while I did some walking and found wireless internet to catch up.
The USS Midway tour was very interesting. All the history of its 50 year career and the old fighter jets and planes that used to be on it. It is a decommissioned ship but the Navy still owns it. The City of San Diego has to maintain it so if the Navy wants it back it is ready to go. Bob wandered top deck to bottom on the ship. “I definitely wouldn’t make it as a Navy man bumping my head all the time!” He spent 4 ½ hours and didn’t see it all!
After Bob joined back up to me we walked to a park where there were brass statues of Bob Hope and service men and women. It was really awesome!
We headed back to the ship and relaxed. Watched us leave the pier and head on south. We passed by the Submarine base. There were at least 5 subs there. This picture shows 2 along the dock.
We enjoyed the sea lions that were on the harbor buoys as we headed out.
