Today we were in Corinto, Nicaragua. We took another tour and noticed how many men were just sitting around. There is almost 40% unemployment! It was rather sad and scarey. The country is very dirty with a lot of garbage everywhere. Very poor living conditions.

There are many, many volcanoes in Nicaragua. Several are active and smoking.

We headed by bus to see the mud pots. Saw several volcanoes on the way.

Notice the smoke coming out of the bottom photo.

The mud pots were very interesting in a very poor village. The villagers were sitting along the path selling pottery items that they formed from the mud. Also, bag of the mud were available! We passed!

The children are fun to see. They are just like children anywhere in the world. Great smiles!

Clothes drying in the tree.

The streets are very narrow, dirt and twisty. This is a typical street in a small village.

The homes are rather sad. Scrap lumber and tin are what most are constructed of with dirt floors. There are many, many dogs everywhere. Most are very underfed and just wonder.

We headed to the town of Leon and visited the central plaza where the church is located. We toured the church and then headed up 76 steps to the roof. The view was great – the square, house roofs, and volcanoes.

The volcanoes are everywhere! Here are some photos from the roof of the church and from the bus back to the ship. Rather eerie to see the smoking ones! Most of the town has been destroyed many times due to volcanoes and earthquakes and then rebuilt.

Another smoking volcano!

When our ship was leaving the pier we noticed a row of children watching us leave.

Here is a photo of the volcanoes from the ship.

In each port we pick up a local harbor pilot who helps our ship pilot into and out of the harbor. The local pilot arrives on a boat and has to climb a rope ladder to board our ship while both of us are moving! Here is a photo of the local pilot leaving our ship.
